To register a Domain Name you must first decide the type of Primary Level Domain you would like, .com, .org, .net or .ca.
Most businesses desire a .com or commercial Domain Designation. The advantage to a .com is that it is the most recognizable type of domain, and conveys an International presence. The disadvantage of a .com is a higher price for the domain and a greater likelihood that your desired Domain is already taken.
The next most desirable Domain is a .ca. The advantages are that it is less expensive, conveys a Canadian presence and is more likely to have the company name you desire still available. The disadvantage of a .ca Domain is that unless you are Federally incorporated, have a Federally registered Trade-mark, or carry on business in more than one province, you may be forced to get a regionally biased name such as yourcompany.on.ca or yourcompany.mississauga.on.ca.
A .org Domain is reserved for non-profit corporations, and a .net is reserved for companies that operate network services. The fees are the same as for a .com.
